{"id":841,"date":"2009-12-24T23:23:00","date_gmt":"2009-12-25T07:23:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.timelypersuasion.com\/blog\/?p=841"},"modified":"2012-09-20T22:55:06","modified_gmt":"2012-09-21T06:55:06","slug":"of-the-year-2009","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.timelypersuasion.com\/blog\/of-the-year-2009\/","title":{"rendered":"Of The Year &#8211; 2009"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve always wanted to &#8220;officially&#8221; track a best of the year music list, and figured here would be the most appropriate place to do it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. <\/strong><a title=\"Rdio.com - Sad Man Happy Man\" href=\"http:\/\/rd.io\/x\/QGIbPkd1hg\" target=\"_self\"><em><strong>Sad Man Happy Man<\/strong><\/em><\/a><strong> &#8212; Mike Doughty<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I had huge expectations going in after an interview said this would sound like <em>Skittish<\/em> &amp; <em>Rockity Roll<\/em>, and Doughty delivered in spades. My sister calls it &#8220;Soul Coughing Unplugged&#8221; which is a decent description. Just Doughty doing what he does best and knocking it out of the park.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. <\/strong><a title=\"Rdio.com - Dark Night of the Soul\" href=\"http:\/\/rd.io\/x\/QGIbPkfNzw\" target=\"_self\"><em><strong>Dark Night of The Soul<\/strong><\/em><\/a><strong> &#8212; Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Wilco-esque tale of an album that nearly wasn&#8217;t might give this bonus points, but regardless it&#8217;s a masterpiece. Still a little odd when I get caught singing the song with my own name in it though&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. <\/strong><a title=\"Rdio.com - Far\" href=\"http:\/\/rd.io\/x\/QGIbPkInKg\" target=\"_self\"><em><strong>Far<\/strong><\/em><\/a><strong> &#8212; Regina Spektor<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve always kinda liked Regina, but now I love her. Heck of a live performance too.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. <\/strong><a title=\"Rdio.com - Monsters of Folk\" href=\"http:\/\/rd.io\/x\/QGIbPkLKMQ\" target=\"_self\"><em><strong>Monsters of Folk<\/strong><\/em><\/a><strong> &#8212; Monsters of Folk<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Supergroups are tough. Always the best intentions, but hard to pull off. This one is greater than the sum of its parts. I especially loved the unexpected electronic feel to the lead track, defying expectations from the start and inviting a closer listen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. <\/strong><a title=\"Rdio.com - Edward Sharpe &amp; The Magnetic Zeros\" href=\"http:\/\/rd.io\/x\/QGIbPke2Wg\" target=\"_self\"><em><strong>Up From Below<\/strong><\/em><\/a><strong> &#8212; Edward Sharpe &amp; The Magnetic Zeros<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A fun, whimsical, magical mystery ride.
