{"id":43,"date":"2008-06-20T11:16:53","date_gmt":"2008-06-20T19:16:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.timelypersuasion.com\/blog\/?p=43"},"modified":"2022-02-13T15:31:27","modified_gmt":"2022-02-13T21:31:27","slug":"commentary-19-19-2000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.timelypersuasion.com\/blog\/commentary-19-19-2000\/","title":{"rendered":"Commentary 19: 19-2000"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In real life, I finished up the previous chapter just before what was supposed to be my first date with the woman who is now my wife. \u00a0Ended my Luxembourg writing day on a high note, saved everything, and gave her a call. \u00a0The conversation:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Me:<\/strong> Hey, how&#8217;s it going.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Her:<\/strong> Not bad. \u00a0Are you ready to hang out tonight?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Me: <\/strong> Definitely. \u00a0Should I head over to your place or do you want to meet somewhere?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Her:<\/strong> I don&#8217;t want to anymore.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Me:<\/strong> Um, ok. \u00a0Some other time?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Her:<\/strong> No. \u00a0I&#8217;m just going to stay home. \u00a0Bye.<\/p>\n<p>So instead of a date, I went to Jon Mack&#8217;s dart league with him, listened to a bunch of Nine Inch Nails and Guns &#8216;N Roses on the way, and woke up the next morning with a big <a title=\"Bofferding.lu\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bofferding.lu\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">Bofferding<\/a> hangover. \u00a0(And as most people from Lux can attest to, you ain&#8217;t had a hangover until you&#8217;ve had a Bofferding hangover.)<\/p>\n<p>That was my mindset at the start of this chapter. \u00a0The story is hilarious now in hindsight, but not so funny at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Other tidbits:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The tan van appears again, and we&#8217;re headed back to the mysterious hospital. \u00a0The point of the van is mainly just to show that his hospital\/study seems to always exist, regardless of time or place.<\/li>\n<li>I had heavy duty writers block at the start of this chapter. \u00a0The Rorschach ink blot test was something I did online to kill time and decided to integrate it into the story just to have something to write about. \u00a0It led to the LBDG inkblot inspiration, so the exercise ended up working.<\/li>\n<li>Originally the narrator requested a Town Spa pizza for his meal, but I cut it under the &#8220;no names&#8221; rule and to stop sounding like a commercial. \u00a0But it is so good&#8230;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Oh, excellent&#8221; is a little shout out to my old roommate Bryan Davidson&#8217;s college catchphrase. \u00a0Bryan went on to do the layout for the <a title=\"A Blog of Timely Persuasion - Remastered\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.timelypersuasion.com\/blog\/?p=39\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">remastered edition<\/a> of the book.<\/li>\n<li>The section with the card games was also a block breaking exercise, and originally was far longer. \u00a0Again the stunt served its purpose though, as it led me to find the extra card and open the door for the return of the old man.<\/li>\n<li>Interesting that this is chapter 19. \u00a0Like a <a title=\"Cribbage Talk\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cribbage.org\/tips\/glossary.asp\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">score of 19<\/a> in cribbage, I don&#8217;t have much more to say about it. \ud83d\ude42<\/li>\n<li>There are 27 known musical references in this chapter.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a title=\"Timely Persuasion - 19-2000\" href=\"http:\/\/reader.timelypersuasion.com\/19.html\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">Read Chapter Nineteen Online<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In real life, I finished up the previous chapter just before what was supposed to be my first date with the woman who is now my wife. \u00a0Ended my Luxembourg writing day on a high note, saved everything, and gave her a call. \u00a0The conversation: Me: Hey, how&#8217;s it going.
