Here you get both. Musically a hit list is a ranking of top tunes\u2014but there\u2019s also a more nefarious, entertainment agnostic meaning. The list becomes Local Boy\u2019s obsession for the rest of the novel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tidbit List:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Learning the original <em>Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! <\/em>premiered mere weeks before the time period we\u2019re in was fun and became a nice little through-line.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No offense or appropriation intended when Local Boy calls their meeting a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Powwow\">powwow<\/a>. It was common usage in 1969 before the world put more stock in respecting cultural traditions, and I felt having Local Boy use it here showed despite his best intentions he\u2019s still a child of his era. He\u2019ll get called out on this later.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.timelypersuasion.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/cma_scoobydooad19690913_.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"320\" height=\"305\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.timelypersuasion.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/cma_scoobydooad19690913_.jpg?resize=320%2C305&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3126\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.timelypersuasion.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/cma_scoobydooad19690913_.jpg?w=320&amp;ssl=1 320w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blog.timelypersuasion.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/cma_scoobydooad19690913_.jpg?resize=300%2C286&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><a href=\"https:\/\/childrensmediaarchive.blogspot.com\/2019\/09\/this-month-in-childrens-media-september.html\">Sept 1969 Scooby-Doo Premiere Ad<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A winking nod to the DeLorean: \u201cI wondered if the van was the actual time machine we used, but the idea of a time traveling car seemed silly so I didn\u2019t bring it up.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The first 7 names we see on the list were designed to obfuscate the purpose while reinforcing Local Boy\u2019s musical knowledge. The redhead (literally) points us to how names get on the list when she says \u201cHe was 27, like the others\u201d before revealing the trio of commonly known 27 Club members in the next batch. But why is Paul McCartney included?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cThe List\u201d warrants a dedicated behind the scenes post I\u2019ll slot in a little later so I\u2019ll stop digging in here. I will say I\u2019m very thankful my past self chose the \u201cPaul is dead\u201d date as the entry point to Local Boy in <em>Timely Persuasion<\/em> since it let so much of this new story naturally fall into place. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the paperback the list is in my terrible handwriting using a font created with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.calligraphr.com\/en\/\">Calligraphr<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I still really like this bit: \u201cHis stare continued to haunt me via the side mirror as we pulled away. Reflected objections hit closer than they appeared.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Originally the redhead did take Local Boy to see Paul McCartney, but I didn\u2019t love the scene and it violated the previously mentioned \u201cLocal Boy is not a time traveler\u201d rule (which seems to already be violated at the Cobain house\u2014but technically isn\u2019t based on the <em>re-enactment<\/em> and &#8220;<em>Paul isn\u2019t a memory\u201d <\/em>hints provided here.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Props to Dr. Frank for the <a href=\"https:\/\/m.youtube.com\/watch?v=up5e6QXwjtI\">rhyme (and rhyme scheme)<\/a> inspiration on <em>conversations with reservations, undisclosed participation<\/em>, <em>concert-going destination<\/em>\u2014though I tried to make it Local Boy\u2019s own bad lyrical style with no subliminal help.
