This break-in is even bigger\u2014directly revisiting a scene from the previous book. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I keep calling <em>Local Boy Done Gone<\/em> a standalone sequel, but in these commentary posts I also keep pointing out places where the two stories intersect. My guiding principle was to treat these overlaps more like easter eggs. If you read the original you\u2019ll appreciate the continuity nods, but if you didn\u2019t it won\u2019t impact your ability to follow the story here\u2014at which point it becomes an easter egg if\/when you read the original book second. <em>(Which came first, the chicken or the easter egg?)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Did it work? That\u2019s for you to decide. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tidbits<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Pling pling pling, ding ding ding, even sleepy Local Boys will sing sing sing!<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We\u2019re at Kurt Cobain\u2019s house in the wee hours of April 7, 1994\u2013a full day before his body is found, and a day previously visited by the narrator of TP in Chapter 5 of that book. The redhead calls it a &#8220;<em>re-enactment<\/em>&#8220;\u2014a very specific word choice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Semi-related: The working title for this chapter was \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/m.youtube.com\/watch?v=PnUb3zegino\">Lithium, Mix 6<\/a>\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <em>distraction<\/em> the redhead removed from 1969 relates to the hasty disappearance of Local Boy\u2019s son before he could meddle too much. We&#8217;ll revisit this later. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-yarn wp-block-embed-yarn\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.getyarn.io\/yarn-clip\/b9aa2213-915c-4e20-9f5d-ef758b280802\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/y.yarn.co\/b9aa2213-915c-4e20-9f5d-ef758b280802_text.gif?resize=640%2C360&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Much later.\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/m.youtube.com\/watch?v=1Aw8fxxSn1k\">What do I have to do?<\/a>\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the original history, Tom Grant &amp; Dylan Carlson search the house but not the garage. In this <em>\u201cre-enactment\u201d<\/em> it\u2019s Local Boy &amp; Nelson doing the searching\u2014still observed by the ghostly time traveling narrator.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We saw Local Boy\u2019s son spike the superball in frustration in the original book upon realizing he couldn\u2019t go upstairs to investigate the greenhouse on the Cobain property. In that book we also learned time travelers can only interact with themselves or a same chromosomed descendent. The redhead seeing the son &amp; grabbing the ball shouldn\u2019t be possible based on past precedent\u2014nor should their ability to freely roam the house. Same world, new territory.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Do you think the redhead will make good on the $200 debt?
